Fluvial geomorphology is the science of how water shapes the Earth’s surface. Hydraulic models tell us about the volume of water delivered to the river and the rate at which it flows – part of the driving force of channel condition. Geomorphology tells us about the resisting force of channel condition, and the strength and shape of the channel. When combined, the two types of analyses allow reasonable predictions about the river’s response to future land use changes.
